Introduction
The Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 was intended to be the start of a new concept in development, integrating economic and business activities with the rights of developing populations and conservation of the environment. This concept came to be known as 'sustainable development', and energy became the focal point for this type of development, which is why certain relevant topics, such as reliable supply, external dependency, energy savings and efficiency, and especially development of renewable energies, will be topics of the highest importance in the coming years.

Some studies led by the European Union have concluded that it will not be possible to reduce CO2 emissions by only acting on the level of energy production. It is essential to promote awareness among consumers and make them a part of energy management.

Why are we interested in Solar Power in particular?

This is because an increasing number of people are committing to a different energy model, based on clean, environmentally friendly energy; and because sustainable consumption is the only way to meet our current needs without compromising on our future. This is why it makes sense to exploit clean, non-polluting, inexhaustible energy sources such as renewable energy.

Being a user of these energy sources does not only mean saving on gas, diesel, coal, or electricity bills - it is beneficial for both the company and the environment. The established energy model is neither fair nor sustainable, as three quarters of energy resources go to a minority of the world population. Furthermore, the fossil-fuel reserve is being exhausted day by day, to say little of the many environmental problems that accompany the use of fossil fuels, such as pollution, global warming, and climate change.

In this respect, it has become necessary to progress towards a more equitable and sustainable model. It is a matter of improving our present to preserve our future. At APOLO we are convinced that renewable energies will play a very important role in this future, and one of these energies is Solar Energy. If there is one abundant energy source in Spain, it is in fact the one providing electromagnetic radiation coming from the sun; and nowadays solar technology is much more developed than it was just a few years ago, with performance increases being achieved every day; and also once the application of this technology becomes widespread, economies of scale will be possible and the experience curve will improve, which will result in a gradual fall of prices until they become competitive with other forms of energy. Until that time arrives, we will continue to benefit from aid and subsidies from the government, who, like its citizens, believe in the potential of Solar Power in Spain and the obvious social, economic, and environmental benefits that it will bring.
